Two Bald Eagles Hanging Out on the Loblolly Pine

We have a few tall Loblolly Pine trees on our property.  They have become a little more popular since the geese took over the osprey nest.  Sometimes the osprey and eagles like to sit on the high branches and look for their next meal.  Recently, an eagle pair were enjoying the view.

Eagles in January

I love watching the bald eagles come to visit the osprey nest.  It is such a privilege to see them.

Bald Eagle Having a Meal

The fish was too small to share with the partner bird!  The left eagle in this photo had just flown down with a fish, nearly hitting it’s partner.  The right eagle actually ducked to avoid getting hit with his/her partner’s wings.  I have some blurry photos of it taken at high speed, but not high enough.  They add to the story a little anyway.  I put them at the end since they aren’t the best photos.

Eagles can be bad flyers sometimes.

Happy President's Day!

I couldn't decide which portrayed President's Day better using my photos, so here are two.  I even tried to put them together, but it needs a little more work.  LOL!

Bald Eagle Pair in January 2022

I love photographing this bald eagle pair in St. Mary's County, MD.  They are at our nearby osprey nest often in winter to look for meals and eat.  It is such a privilege to be able to see them so close.  This time they were probably warning off other birds that wanted their meal.

If you are interested in eagle photos, I have one of my best eagle 8x10 photos for sale at Zazzle.

Bald Eagles were Visiting

When a pair of bald eagles came to visit, they separated and one sat on the post while the other used the osprey nest.  To try to turn the photo into one subject, I waited till they were looking at each other, or at least showed some animation.

Oops, careful there.  Don’t fall off!

That’s better.

Bald Eagle Pair Visits

 Say What?

What are you doing?

I’ll look this way, you take that way.

Interesting facts:  Eagles mate for life.  Although they are fierce raptors, they make a cute little “cheep cheep” to communicate.

An Icicle Day

From one of those storms on February 18th.  Notice how the eagle’s feathers are fluffed out to keep warm.  The icicles tell the story!

Bald Eagle Visits

Eagles have been visiting our osprey nest in the last few months.  They like using it to eat and look for food.

Bald Eagles Stopped by to Check Out the Creek

The osprey have probably flown south now, so the eagles felt free to hang out at the osprey nest again.  They came just in time for me to add some photos to the animal critique group I belong to in the Photographic Society of America yesterday.  This one seemed the sharpest and the others are bonus pictures for you.

Bald Eagle Confrontation Photos from September 8, 2018

Two bald eagles were making a lot of fuss.  While I watched, an osprey swooped down to complain that the eagles were sitting on HIS nest.  It wasn't the best view of the osprey, but at least I got them all in one photo!  The osprey tend to leave for the south in early September, but even though they weren't hanging around the nest, they still objected to visiting eagles.  They are gone now, so the eagles visit without comment.

I never get tired of seeing the bald eagles nearby.

Award Winning photo from St Mary's County Camera Club in August 2017

I forgot to post my 1st place Eagle Nesting Photo from the Wildlife theme in last month's competition.  This bald eagle was building up a nest in October 2016 when I caught it flying around with a stick.  I prefer to use more recent photos in competition.

I have been spotting an eagle nearby lately, since the osprey have left for the season.  Last year we rarely saw any.  A neighbor put up several bird blinds for hunting and the eagles disappeared.  I expect the same thing will happen this year.  I need to enjoy seeing them while I can.

Bald Eagle in Flight

A bald eagle photo from last week, before the osprey arrived.  The osprey came 3/18/17, the latest we've ever recorded. (Or possibly 3/17, since we were out all day.). I doubt if I'll see the eagle much till the osprey leaves in September.
