New Peacock Triptych Just Posted

I have a fondness for peacocks, as long as they don't live in my backyard!  I just love how proudly they show off their colors to entice the female peahens.  I wanted to try making a triptych, one of those 3 panel acrylic photographs.  They look great behind your couch.  I also added a whimsical t-shirt with the back on the back. LOL.  I hope you think this one is special.

Camera Club competition winners for March

Theme Still Life First place March

I spent some time working on still life photos for competition this month.  Since I could do them inside, they were easier then going out somewhere.  It took me several days to figure out how to get good light in my living room, since the window light wasn’t working and I can’t stand long enough to try a lot of ideas.  Walking is less painful than standing at this point.  I wanted to use the glass around the hurricane lamp, but I kept getting window reflections or flash bright spots, so I finally took it off.  I had to review how to use multiple flash with my new camera, a little complicated.   I think it would be fun to take the time to try to get it right with the glass, maybe using a black reflector.  The judge suggested moving the candle a little right to see all of it.

Ice photos

This time of year, you can get creative with ice photos or snow pictures.  Look for interesting shapes in the ice or icicles hanging from the roof or even your mailbox, especially near sunrise or sunset.

Look for ice crystals on your windows too.  You won't even have to go outside!  One year, I used a star filter on my lens and tried to catch the water drops from an icicle hanging off my roof with the sunlight behind it.  I finally caught one, but it took a lot of patience.  I didn't have to go outside for that one either.

I recently photographed some branches growing into the water.  It has an interesting reflection too.   I call it Ice Fingers.

A short while later, I photographed this simple reflection of the sun at sunset, like molten gold.

Feel free to post your own ice picture.
