Farm Market Project Barns at New Market

One of the larger farm markets in St. Mary's County is the Barns at New Market, at 29133 Thompson Corner Road in Mechanicsville, Maryland.  It was formerly the North County Farmer's market at the Charlotte Hall Library parking lot, but it expanded and moved to the new location in 2022.

Hours are:

Saturday 9-3 inside and outside

Sunday 12-4 inside only

Monday-Saturday 9-4 only some outside

The seasonal location probably is only open inside in winter, mid-January through March, so check later if you visit then.

We visited on May 30th, so the items for sale may be slightly different.

Homegrown Farm Market in St. Mary's County

A low red building sits near gate 3 in the south part of Lexington Park directly off route 235.  The vendors were quite friendly and I was surprised to find that they still accepted my little wooden coins that were offered fairly soon after the market opened.  They are open Saturdays 9 am-1 pm.  Some of the items I noticed included eggs, meat, vegetables, home made items like glass, beeswax wraps that kept bugs off your food.  They had a large box of legos for the childen to play with while the older folks shopped that I thought was a nice touch.  These photos were mostly made in the end of May and early June, so the specific items may have changed.  It's a pleasant place to visit for local items.  (Part 2 of my farm market project)

Local Maryland Farm Market Project

I decided to photograph as many local farm markets as possible for a little photo project.  With somewhat limited mobility, I try to get creative with new things to photograph.  Past projects included crepe myrtles, boat launches, beaches, local parks and more. 

I began my project on May 20th and got caught up in River Concert photos for a while, so I finally edited the photos.  Apologies for posting old pictures of fruits, vegetables and flowers that are now out of season, but there are still lots of other items to buy locally homemade or home grown.  

I started in Calvert County with Chesapeake's Bounty Farmers Market, just because I stopped at Annmarie Garden.   I wanted some good strawberries, yum.  I apologize if I am making you hungry.  No fruits or vegetables were harmed in the making of these photographs!  At least, not until later after I got home.

Snow Hill Park and Beach, St Marys County, MD

 I visited Snow Hill Park after driving by and noticing that the renovations were done and it was open again.  They added some fun hammocks, a location for events, a nice playground and a nicer picnic pavilion since I was last there.  There are plans to put in restrooms, hiking trails, a motorized boat ramp, a nature center and more parking in the future.  I expect it will eventually be a quite popular and crowded park.

Enjoy my photos of the current park.  See my blog post from July 4th 2022 to see some older features of the park.  The big curvy tree is still there, but the covered boathouse is gone.
