My Winning End of Year photos from 2023 Camera Club Competition

We are a small camera club, but it was very nice to have some winning photos in the End of Year competition 2023 (competing winning photos from earlier in the year).  Frankly, I think everyone in our club is quite talented and they all deserve recognition for their photography and their hard work helping with club activities.  See our website, https://www.smccc.org for more information about the club.

Friendship roses

Roses can have different meanings.  I decided to make a photo collection of roses for friendship and place them on my musical instruments.  Pink roses mean appreciation, gratitude or recognition, joy, happiness and grace.

A white rose stands for innocence, purity or charm.

Gold roses say joy, gladness, affection, friendship.   I plan to add these roses to my Zazzle collection.

Photos of the River Concert Tributary Series concert with José Cueto (violin), Nancy Roldán (piano), Heather Haughn (violin), Jim Kelly (viola) and Barbara Brown (violincello) on July 20, 2019.  They played Argentinian music by Piazzolla, Guastavino and Ginastera at St. Mary's Hall at St. Mary's College or Maryland.  Some of the music showed off the many ways to play stringed instruments and the last piece "Allegro Tangábile" was particularly difficult and exciting.
  Please share with your friends.

River Concert July 21, 2017 St. Mary's College of MD

The Chesapeake Orchestra performed on July 21st at St. Mary's College of Maryland on the Townhouse Green at 7:30 pm.  Jeffrey Silberschlag conducted music of George Gershwin, including "I Got Rhythm" and the famous "Rhapsody in Blue", music by Cole Porter and a Medley from "La La Land", as well as many others.  The piano was brilliantly played by repeat solo performer Jeffrey Chappell.  The concert was slightly delayed due to warm conditions.

As a photographer, I tried to catch moments that showed the dexterity of the performers, smiles in the orchestra, peaks of the action and emotional moments; I photograph all the things that portray the thrill of watching a great performance and memories that a viewer will want to bring home with them.

Westie Playing Piano Photo for Sale

Here's another favorite in my current Lexington Park Exhibit.  I call it Unleashed Melody or Westie Playing Piano, depending on my mood.  It took a lot of patience to take the photo.  It won a humor contest at the St. Mary's County Camera Club.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I tried some long exposures last night only lit by two tiny portable spotlights.  I turned off the room lights and "sprayed" the subjects with light.  The dozen roses were placed on a piece of black velvet.  I also used the velvet to cover part of our keyboard to remove the words written on the plastic to simplify the image.  The velvet was used under the guitar also.

Romantic Night Out at the Woodlawn Farm on July 20th

We went to Woodlawn Farm last Saturday July 20th to see the talented pianist, Brian Ganz representing the Chesapeake Orchestra.  He is so incredibly talented that he performed for about two hours with no sheet music.

We expected rain and got a tiny bit, just enough to make a beautiful double rainbow over the Trinity Manor house.  Maggie O'Brien, owner and former St. Mary's College President, told us that Point Lookout got the storm that narrowly missed us.

Between the lovely light on the water, the rainbow, the sunset and the beautiful sound of the keyboard by the slight glow from the house windows, it was a romantic sight.  The crickets and cool breeze assisted as well.

The piano was almost wedged between 2 pillars and the original front door of the house.  The workers who squeezed it into place deserve a lot of praise.
