Cover Photo by Calm Reflections Photography for 20th Anniversary River Concert Series

The wonderful River Concert Series began on Friday, June 29th with the Chesapeake Orchestra, fireworks, patriotic music, jazz solos by Sara Jones, and a few ballet numbers by Ballet Caliente.  The free concerts are held at St. Mary's College of MD.

The Chesapeake Orchestra shared my Old Boat photo on the cover of the 2018 20th Anniversary River Concert program.
I also have photos on pages 5, 7 tent, 14, 15 Jose, 18 Ad, 19 Adolph, 31, 32, 33,34, 35, 36, 40, and 42.

To access the whole program visit

The boat photo made me think of St. Mary's County and there was nice autum late day light available.  It was photographed at St. Mary's College of MD a few years ago.  The original photo is also available on my online collection at https://www.zazzle.com/old_boat_8x10_print-190112637160930443

Tunnel Hull boats 2 SMBC Regatta July 29

Second video of the Tunnel hull boats, really powerful race boats running a demonstration.  These boats can drive over 100 mph.  They are all vintage boats owned by the Southern Maryland Boat Club members at the Leonardtown Wharf.  This was the third club Regatta, where the owners and drivers could show off their boats to the public in a much safer situation than a race.  There were no winners, just happy club members.

The weather was miserable, so after one run of each type of boat, they cancelled for the rest of the day till the weather improved on July 30th.

A short Video, Part 1  The Texaco boat was Rayner Blair zipping by.

Southern Maryland Boat Club Regatta July 30-31, 2016: Disability Be Damned!

Jim is a member of the SMBC and participated in the Regatta this year for the first time at Leonardtown Wharf. This was very special for him because he has extra disabilities to overcome to be in the demos and made quite a few modifications to his boat to drive in the Regatta.  His boat is a 1985 Ski Centurion Warrior Barefoot boat.  His boat's speed was about 55 mph.

He enjoyed showing off his boat and wants to thank his pit crew for all of their help.  It was quite hot, but lots of fun and we also enjoyed the lovely club dinner at Rayner Blair's house Saturday night.

Someone from the club asked if I would offer my Regatta photos for sale, but mostly I am posting them for your enjoyment.

Woodlawn Concert July 18th, 2015: And The Boat Went By

The Chesapeake Orchestra Fellows, a talented group of young people directed by Jeffrey Silberschlag, performed outside on the Woodlawn Farm lawn last Saturday by the creek.

Sometimes outdoor concerts contend with unusual local events, noise, children, weather, etc.  During this concert, a neighbor was running little tours of the creek, right past the location of the concert.  Many Times!!!  Jeffrey Silberschlag just took the interruptions in stride with a little bit of humor.   At least that's what we saw on his face!

Several of the young performers had solos;
Joey Lavarias on bassoon

Zachary Silberschlag on Trumpet

And the boat went by....

Alan Morris? On oboe

Milad Daniara on Bass

Others in the Chesapeake Orchestra Fellows included Olenka Dolak on cello

Mike Eby and Victoria Wolf Lewis on violin

Solomon's Offshore Grandprix boat race

We spent most of the day on Sunday September 15th on Solomon's Island watching the exciting boat races from about 12-5 pm along the boardwalk section of the Patuxent River. It was the national finals.
I photographed a red boat (623) and Cisco with the bows off the water and Cleveland Construction (green) racing by the Solomon's pier restaurant. I am sharing some interesting pictures of Wazzup (purple with yellow flames) accepting a winning checkered flag and the crazy celebration circles it made in the water afterwards.
Some of the winners included Tug It, Cisco, Wazzup, and Miss Mary Mac.
For once, the day was lovely, bright and sunny, which made for poor photos with bright overhead light and a happier crowd.
(overcast days and photos early or late in the day have better contrast)
