Southern Maryland Boat Club Regatta July 29th

My husband, Jim, was thrilled to drive his boat in the Boat Club's 2017 Summer Regatta!  The weather wasn't too cooperative on Saturday July 29th, but improved considerably on Sunday.  Each class only had one heat on Saturday and they ended around 1 P. M. instead of 5 P. M.

Here are some photos from Saturday.  Each demonstration included two parade laps under the yellow flag, followed by 5 laps under the green flag.  I didn't photograph all of the boats that day.

River Concert July 22, 2017 at St. Mary's College of Maryland

A brief performance of the River Concert was featured on July 22nd at St. Mary's College of Maryland.  The weather was very uncooperative, with a large band of thunderstorms.  After a downpour, I was seated with a crowd of attendees right beneath the orchestra shell to avoid the rain and couldn't easily move, so I photographed what I could get.

The concert featured the Southern Maryland Gospel Choir, the young  James singers,  "I Got Rhythm" played by Jeffrey Chappell, Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" by the Chesapeake Orchestra and a few words by Natii Wright before the concert was cancelled.    I apologize for not getting a full photo of the choir and their musicians, as I normally would.

Unfortunately, my view of most of the gospel choir was blocked, so I photographed what I could.

River Concert July 21, 2017 St. Mary's College of MD

The Chesapeake Orchestra performed on July 21st at St. Mary's College of Maryland on the Townhouse Green at 7:30 pm.  Jeffrey Silberschlag conducted music of George Gershwin, including "I Got Rhythm" and the famous "Rhapsody in Blue", music by Cole Porter and a Medley from "La La Land", as well as many others.  The piano was brilliantly played by repeat solo performer Jeffrey Chappell.  The concert was slightly delayed due to warm conditions.

As a photographer, I tried to catch moments that showed the dexterity of the performers, smiles in the orchestra, peaks of the action and emotional moments; I photograph all the things that portray the thrill of watching a great performance and memories that a viewer will want to bring home with them.
