Clazzical Jazz Tributary Concert July 22, 2017

I just posted photos of the Clazzical concert on July 22, starring Don Stapleson on Flute, Fred Lieder on Cello, Peter Fields on Guitar, and Jennifer Cooper, singer on my Facebook site.    The concert was part of the final weekend of the River Concert series.  To quote Don Stapleson's Clazzical Project business card, "Where classical meets Jazz in delightfully unexpected ways"  I liked that.  They were wonderful and fun.

Upcoming Southern Maryland Boat Club Vintage Regatta July 29-30

Jim's Boat Club is having their annual Vintage Power Boat Regatta this weekend, July 29-30 at the Leonardtown Wharf,  8 am - 5 pm.  All of the boats are antiques and there are no winners, but the club members all have a great time racing around the course.

My husband, Jim, is looking forward to participating.  We seem to be having a few difficulties this year, but hopefully everything will go well.

Here are a few photos from previous years.

Rare Rained Out River Concert on July 14, 2017

A threatening storm and downpour cancelled a wonderful River Concert which would have featured a ballet, tango and clarinet Concerto by the Chesapeake Orchestra and friends at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

I photographed a few rehearsing musicians before the audience was requested to take cover from the impending thunderstorm.  I wished we had arrived earlier for more of the rehearsal.  If you have any photos taken of the rehearsal, please feel free to share them.

Jose՛ Cueto, Concertmaster

The skies started looking ominous before it was strongly suggested to take cover from the storm.

Our friend, Scott Jacoby, was still at work supporting the Newtowne Players

After a downpour, the sun peaked out between the clouds, while one of the vendors had braced their tent from the storm.

Taking away the chairs.  This shot said it all!

River Concert July 7, 2017 Choral Music

Larry Vote was the guest conductor at the River Concert at St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday, July 7th on the Townhouse Green.  Larry's daughter, Olivia, was the special soloist, a former choir member and fellow soprano in my church choir.  Since then, she has performed in many operas around the country and fairly recently in Switzerland.  The RCS choir (including several friends) and the Chesapeake Orchestra performed "Gloria" by Vivaldi and Mahler's "Songs of the Wayfarer".  Olivia also sang some of her favorites and mine "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

River Concert June 30 2017 An Evening of Americana for Our Independence Holiday

The second River Concert of the season featured the lovely voice of Kelly Balmaceda, a 2001 graduate of Leonardtown High School and the Chesapeake Orchestra plus many other soloists.  She sang some American pop favorites like a Medley from the "Sound of Music" and Burt Bacharach music.  The concert also featured Sousa's "Stars and Stripes", "Hosedown" a Morton Gould favorite including members of the Southern Maryland Fire and Rescue squad, and of course the "1812 Overture" and fireworks.  The concert was held on the Townhouse Green at St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday night at 7 pm.

Here are my favorite photos of the many I took at the concert as the official Chesapeake Orchestra photographer.  Please feel free to share the blog with friends.
