Crepe Myrtles In St. Marys County

I assigned myself a project to photograph the beautiful Crepe Myrtle (or crape myrtle) trees in the County.  They can be planted in late fall to early spring, because they bloom in summer.  Recently they may be attacked by an Asian pest called Bark Scale that slows the growth of the tree (but probably won't kill it), due to a substance called Honeydew.   The substance gets on the leaves and bark and can be scrubbed off with 1 Tablespoon of soap to a quart of water or use horticultural oil instead.  You can also trim the branches and burn them.

I still found the trees to be fairly beautiful, especially compared to 2022.

I particularly like the pink ones (light or hot pink), but I did find some white and lavender flowers as well.  In the County, they are found near buildings, in parking lots, roadways and on lawns.

Holiday Lights in St. Mary's County Part 3

I took a few more Christmas Light photos before people shut off their lights.  It is nice that folks turn these on for the all of us to enjoy and celebrate the holidays.  These were mostly taken in the Lexington Park area.

Autumn in St. Mary's Part 1-2022

With this crazy warm weather, I was able to take some fun local Fall photos.  I was trying to find places near water for Autumn reflections, country back roads (challenging since most places are paved now) and pretty leaves.

Christmas Lights 2021

We took a lovely drive this week to see the decorations made by our St. Mary's County neighbors in 2021.   Here is a sampling of the ones I liked the most in the south part of the County

Signs of the times in St. Mary's County, MD

When I took a few minutes to photograph the Spring flowers, I noticed a few scenes that represented our current times with the pandemic.  I didn't know till later, that the Governor of Maryland told people to stay out of the local parks.  Nicolet Park was almost empty anyway.  I found this old abandoned deflated basketball in the woods that I kicked into the scene nearby to add to the feeling of quiet and emptiness.

 No watchers.  No game.

Only one person at the dirt bike track, photographed through a fence with a long lens.

 Take out only.

 Closed churches, not the norm.

Sunset on St. Jeromes Creek April 20, 2019

Some lovely cell phone sunset pictures I took Saturday while walking at St. Jerome's Creek, St. Mary's County, MD.  These are both HDR photos (High Dynamic Range) processed on my phone.
