Woodlawn Concert on July 4th

We watched the Woodlawn Farm concert in Ridge last Saturday night, July 4th, featuring the Chesapeake Fellows http://www.chesapeakeorchestra.org/chesapeake-orchestra-fellows.html
(a string sextet)

Lawrence Feldman,

Zachary Silberschlag on trumpet

and Nathaniel Silberschlag on electronic piano

and horn

and a young male bass playerfrom the Fellows group.

It was a lovely intimate concert for a smaller crowd, willing to pay $25 per concert to help support the Chesapeake Orchestra.

There will be 3 more consecutive Saturday concerts open to the public at 7 pm.  Wine

and hors d'oeuvres will be available.  http://www.chesapeakeorchestra.org/waterside-at-woodlawn.html

July 3rd Holiday River Concert Attracts a Huge Crowd

The crowd seems to get bigger every year!
I really enjoyed hearing some favorite popular music from backstage.  What a treat!
The sky was overcast and therefore fairly cool and pleasant.  I took advantage of the light and photographed from backstage earlier than normal, without the bright sunshine in the background.

Jeffrey Silberschlag and soloist Lawrence Feldman had some fun taking a selfie in front of the crowd.

Mr. Feldman, saxophonist, has worked with the Saturday Night Live Band, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and many more.

Heather Haughn, violinist, volunteered to sing a few lines and did an excellent job.

Calvert County Times Cover Photo July 2, 2015

I learned today that a second fireworks photo was published on the cover of the Calvert County Times.  The St. Mary's County Times is connected with to the other newspaper more closely than I thought.  I was hoping to maybe have one picture published, not two!  If any of you folks from Calvert have a copy, please save it for me.
Here is the current link to the issue.

County Times Cover July 2nd 2015

If you get a chance, take a look at the cover of today's County Times in St. Mary's County.  My fireworks picture from a previous River Concert is on the cover.

River Concert Friday June 26th, St. Mary's College of Maryland

Nathaniel Silberschlag was the star performer on horn, a very talented 16 year old.  Actually his whole family is very talented!  He played the solo part in Mozart's Concerto number 4 for Horn and did a superb job for the Chesapeake Orchestra.  I am looking forward to the Friday July 3rd concert, "Superman, Sousa, Saturday Night Live".

River Concert June 19th, 2015

I am once again the official photographer for the River Concert Series at the St. Mary's College of Maryland.  We enjoyed the concert last Friday night very much.

        Jeffrey Silberschlag, Music Director

We attended the Arts Alliance reception before the concert and ate lots of good munchies.

Yevgeny Kutik's performance  in Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in  E Minor, Op. 64 was absolutely brilliant.  The violin part is a very expressive, full of emotion and quite difficult.

The orchestra shell was lit from inside by magenta filters, which I couldn't resist photographing.

It was great to see the Chesapeake Orchestra once again and we enjoyed talking with some of them and their supporters after the concert.

We are looking forward to hearing Nathaniel Silberschlag in Mozart's Concerto number 4 on Friday night, June 26th.

That's Nathaniel on horn, 2nd from the left, next to his brother, Zach, from last week's concert.

May 18-19: Lahaina Maui

I watched the sunrise at the Makai Inn.

We drove north and stopped at 3 beaches.  The 1st beach had big turtles.
      Pohaku Park

The 2nd was D T Fleming beach: good
   for swimming.  The coarse sand
    was not too pretty.

We ate lunch on a bluff by a restaurant at Kapalua beach- very pretty snorkel and kayak beach.

We took the Atlantis submarine at 2pm, lots of blue ocean, the sunken Carthaginian ship and fish, moray eels,  and sharks.

At 6 pm we went to the OId Lahaina Luau.  Good food, service and entertainment.  The show told the story of hawaiian myths and ended with Prince Kuhio, Princess Liliokulani and statehood.
